Bertha Battle Edwards was born on September 13, 1933, to the late Robert and Roberta Battle of Cuthbert, GA.
She departed her life on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Joann Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert, GA. She went to school in Randolph County. At an early age, she joined the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Cuthbert, GA.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Sam Edward from Albany, GA, who preceded her in death. They later moved to Chicago, IL. There were no children born to this union. Though she had no children of her own, she played a large round in being a second mom to all her nephews and nieces by doing what she could by giving clothes, toys, or whatever was needed. She was there to help. She loved to cook and bake.
She was a maid for a number of years until she retired. She had eight brothers who preceded her in death, Robert Battle, Oscar Battle, Andrew Lee Battle, Willie C. Battle, Benpain Battle, Isaac Battle, Baby Battle, and William Battle.
She leaves to cherish her memories: John Battle, Sr., of Cuthbert, GA; sister, Mildred Murphy of Buluces, MS, and Wilburn Battle of Cleveland, OH; fifteen or more nephews and nieces; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
